Meeting in Yaoundé on October 17, 2025, the twenty parties grouped within the G20 held an extraordinary press conference where they denounced Issa Tchiroma’s self-proclamation of victory, warned against any misstep that could threaten civil peace, and demanded the suspension of any final proclamation of results until the complete tally of the official reports is finished.
The political climate is raising questions in Cameroon as the country awaits the official results of the October 12 presidential election. On October 17, 2025, the G20, a coalition of twenty opposition parties that supported Paul Biya’s candidacy, spoke out in Yaoundé. In a firm statement, its officials described Issa Tchiroma’s self-proclamation as illegal and dangerous. They pointed out that 32,684 official reports from the country’s 360 districts had not yet been fully compiled, making any premature declaration of victory null and void.
We condemn in the strongest terms the self-proclamation of victory by Mr. Issa Tchiroma Bakary, because on the date he made this illegal proclamation, the commissions responsible for compiling and tallying the votes had not yet completed their mission of counting and verifying the 31,653 official reports.
The G20 believes that the calls for mobilization issued by Issa Tchiroma are likely to provoke tensions and weaken national cohesion. The member parties condemned what they call political irresponsibility and issued a solemn appeal for calm. They urge the candidate in question to withdraw his statements and cooperate with the electoral institutions to restore stability. The group also denounced the violence that occurred in Garoua and demanded the opening of an independent investigation.
We demand that the administrative and judicial authorities immediately process complaints related to incitement to violence, fraud, and acts of intimidation.
The G20 is demanding the suspension of any final proclamation until the compilation of the official reports is complete. It is also calling on the authorities to process complaints related to the violence and alleged fraud. The group reaffirms its commitment to the Constitution, the republican order, and the preservation of civil peace.
