Business world keeps confidence in Nicolas Sarkozy despite his conviction

Must read

The former president of France had reinvented himself since 2012 as a high-end consultant and a paid member of corporate boards for major listed companies. None are considering terminating their collaboration with him, even though he is scheduled to be imprisoned on Tuesday.

At 70 years old, Nicolas Sarkozy was set to experience the prison system on Tuesday, October 21. Before his detention in the isolation wing of the Santé prison center (Paris’s 14th arrondissement), the former president was given nearly a month to put his affairs in order.

His numerous clients—Natixis, Axian, the management of the Marietton tourism group, and the company Compagnie Chargeurs Invest, which opened a seat on its board of directors to Mr. Sarkozy’s wife, Carla Bruni, in July—as well as the listed companies (Lagardère, Accor) on whose boards he sits, have no intention of dropping him. While his imprisonment could be short-lived if his request for release is accepted by the court of appeal within two months, it is noted that no “management ban” was issued against Nicolas Sarkozy on September 25.
