The Slovak company ROKOSAN is building a factory in the Bugesera district industrial park, Rwanda, to produce “organic fertilizers” from poultry feathers, and livestock hooves and horns. Rokosan International opened its subsidiary in Rwanda last year.

A company spokesperson stated that the investment in the factory would amount to approximately 20 million euros. The future organic fertilizer plant, which will produce fertilizer from local resources, is expected to revolutionize the conversion of animal waste into organic fertilizer. The company will establish collection points across the country to process animal waste such as livestock hooves and horns, as well as poultry feathers from chicken farmers, which will provide opportunities for Rwandan farmers.

A Slovak delegation consisting of members from ROKOVIA, ROKOSAN RWANDA, the Slovak Agency for Development, Investment and Trade (SARIO), and economic diplomats from the Slovak embassy in Nairobi, met with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Béata Habyarimana, and presented opportunities for cooperation between Slovak and Rwandan companies. The cornerstone was also laid at the Bugesera district site for the construction of the organic fertilizer factory during the delegation’s visit.

The factory is expected to begin production in the second quarter of 2022 to produce 20 million liters of organic fertilizer per year. A laboratory to conduct soil analysis and crop analysis tailored for fertilizers will also be established.
