Maputo’s Ferroviário Defeats Cameroon’s FAP in WBLA 2025 Match

Must read

On December 7, 2025, Ferroviário de Maputo defeated Cameroon’s FAP 62–43. With two wins in two games, the defending champion takes the lead in Group B of the 2025 Women’s Basketball League Africa.

Facing Cameroon’s FAP on December 7, 2025, for its second game in the African Women’s Basketball League, the Mozambican club Ferroviário de Maputo controlled the match in stages: 18–14 in the first quarter, 15–15 in the second, then a clear 17–8 in the third before a final quarter ending 16–12. FAP, already beaten by Kenya’s KPA (64–83), suffers a second defeat.

“Second game, second win. We executed our plan, our aggressiveness made the difference. But nothing is decided yet; we must keep improving ahead of the final group game.”

Solid defensively after halftime, Ferroviário took control thanks to effective adjustments and better pace management. The gap created in the third quarter allowed them to lock down the game, notably by limiting the opponent’s offensive initiatives and maintaining a steady volume of outside shots.

“We started a bit slow, but we found our rhythm in the second half and finished strong. At halftime, we woke up and came back stronger.”

The stakes are now higher for both teams. FAP will play for its future in the competition in its third game, against Nigeria’s First Bank on December 9, its last chance to hope for a spot in the second round. For its part, Ferroviário de Maputo will face a significant test against Kenya Ports Authority, who defeated Cameroon in the opener, with the aim of confirming its momentum and securing its qualification for good.
