Denis Sassou N’Guesso and the Signal for the 2026 Elections
The presidential majority in Congo-Brazzaville is preparing a public demonstration of unity ahead of the March 2026 presidential election. On January 29, the Secretary-General of the Congolese Party of Labour (PCT) stated that the coalition is set to sign a pledge to support President Denis Sassou N’Guesso.
Speaking at a New Year’s greeting ceremony, he presented this initiative as the logical culmination of coordination among the parties that make up the presidential majority. He described an ongoing effort to refine the coalition’s organization, with the pledge being presented as its next high point.
PCT Leadership Presents a Formal Pledge in Brazzaville
He stated that the PCT’s goal of supporting Denis Sassou N’Guesso is shared by the other forces within the presidential majority. “This legitimate ambition of the PCT is also that of the other forces of the presidential majority,” he affirmed, adding that the coalition is mobilizing around its leader.
According to him, the planned pledge aims to formalize this support. He indicated that the majority is “in a process of refining its organization” and that the signing of a declaration of commitment will take place “very soon” as a concrete step before the election.
Signing Date Set for February 2 at PCT Headquarters
Barring any changes, he specified that the declaration would be signed on February 2 in the auditorium of the PCT’s national headquarters in Brazzaville. The event is expected to bring together PCT officials and representatives from other majority parties for a coordinated political message.
In his call for participation, he urged PCT executives, activists, and supporters, as well as allied parties and “all forces driven by progress,” to rally behind Denis Sassou N’Guesso’s candidacy. He presented the planned ceremony as a significant political milestone and a test of collective discipline.
A Call for Peaceful Mobilization and Vigilance
He emphasized that the mobilization must remain calm. “This mobilization must take place in peace,” he declared, while also asking supporters to remain vigilant against what he described as harmful actions.
The language reflects a familiar theme in the majority’s politics: mobilizing the base while insisting on the stability of the public space. The message was clear: support must be visible, organized, and non-violent.
Party Performance and Strategic Goals Highlighted
Addressing PCT members, he praised a strong performance that allowed the party to achieve most of the strategic goals set at the beginning of the previous term. He linked these results to fidelity to the party’s ideals, commitment to work, and the sense of responsibility among executives and supporters.
In his analysis, the PCT’s internal culture—discipline, cohesion, and solidarity—remains central to the majority’s electoral preparation. He argued that these values are not only organizational assets but also practical tools for running a successful campaign in 2026.
Coalition Unity and the “Challenge of March 2026”
He stated that the next step is to maintain and deepen the momentum that, in his view, underpins the party’s successes. He urged members to preserve unity and cohesion as indispensable conditions for winning what he called the “challenge of March 2026.”
The focus on internal order suggests an effort to avoid fragmentation as the election approaches. For the majority, projecting coherence is also a way to reassure supporters and signal continuity to institutions, partners, and other actors observing the pre-electoral climate.
Party Restructuring Mentioned
On behalf of the PCT’s executives, activists, and supporters, the Permanent Secretary in charge of party administration and archives praised the leadership. He said the past six years have been marked by efforts to rejuvenate the party’s grassroots structures and strengthen its national presence.
He also highlighted the restructuring of sectoral unions and the consolidation of internal unity. He presented these changes as organizational gains that strengthen the party’s preparation and provide a clearer chain of coordination as the campaign timeline tightens.
Party-Government Exchanges and a Message of Readiness
He indicated that public action has been followed by exchanges between the party and the government on issues of national interest. He portrayed these interactions as a way for the PCT to track priorities and remain aligned on governance issues debated at the national level.
Concluding his remarks, he linked the internal momentum to the upcoming election. “Galvanized by your unwavering commitment,” he said, “we reaffirm our full availability and firm determination to work for the triumph of our party’s ideals” on the eve of the March 2026 presidential election.
