Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevao Pale, and his Algerian counterpart, Adjal Mourad, signed a series of strategic agreements on Thursday in Maputo aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the mineral resources and energy sectors. This partnership is focused on sustainable development and knowledge sharing, leveraging Algeria’s expertise in the energy field, particularly in hydrocarbon management.

As part of strengthening the partnership between Mozambique and Algeria, a series of strategic agreements were signed on Thursday, October 16th, in Maputo. These agreements aim to deepen bilateral cooperation in the mineral resources and energy sectors. They cover the entire oil and gas value chain, with a particular emphasis on expanding the domestic gas distribution network and transferring technical expertise to Mozambique’s National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH).

We have signed four agreements covering several areas. This announcement reflects the commitment of my counterparts to strengthen the growing participation of the Algerian economy.

As part of this new collaboration, Algeria has proposed two major initiatives: the creation of a joint venture for manufacturing electrical equipment and the construction of a power plant with a capacity of 40.2 megawatts, intended to bolster Mozambique’s energy supply.

We are working together to further develop our partnerships. Future meetings are planned to continue these efforts and improve aspects that still need to be consolidated.

With its vast reserves estimated at over 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, Mozambique is positioning itself as a future key player in the global liquefied natural gas market. Algeria, endowed with 1.7 billion tonnes of oil and 4,500 billion cubic meters of proven gas, continues to consolidate its role as a regional energy power.
