The Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 group signed a framework agreement for a peace deal in Qatar on Saturday, aimed at ending the fighting in eastern Congo.
The agreement was signed by representatives from both sides during a ceremony in the Qatari capital, Doha.
In July, the two parties had agreed on a declaration of principles that left many key issues at the root of the conflict unresolved, and in October, they reached an agreement on monitoring a potential ceasefire.
The fighting has killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands more this year, while increasing the risk of a large-scale regional war.
