The Moroccan U-20 national team qualified for the World Cup final on Wednesday, October 15, in Chile.
Facing France, the Moroccans won 5-4 on penalties after an intense match that ended 1-1 following extra time.
Morocco took the lead in the 32nd minute with a penalty converted by Yasser Zabbiri, after a first half dominated by the young Moroccans. France equalized in the 59th minute through Michel, assisted by Davo. Goalkeeper Benshaoush was substituted in the 64th minute. His replacement, Ibrahim Gomez, excelled under pressure.
Despite a tense finish and several missed chances, notably by Maâma and Zabbiri, Morocco couldn’t secure a win before the penalty shootout. France finished with ten men after Zwingola was sent off in the 106th minute.
Ultimately, the match was decided by penalties: 5-4 for Morocco, who reached the U-20 World Cup final for the first time.
In the other match, Argentina qualified for the U-20 World Cup final by defeating Colombia 1-0. The Albiceleste youngsters will face Morocco for the title this Sunday.
