Sébastien Lecornu is not the only one facing a “budgetary Himalaya,” as his predecessor put it. Far from Matignon, in his office near Lyon, Cyril Linette finds himself in the same situation. Except that, unlike the prime minister, the Director General of the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee now sees the summit. His stands at just over 2.1 billion euros, according to the first version of the multi-annual budget for the Games in the French Alps, which is due to be presented to the board of directors on Monday, October 20, after being adopted by the executive board on Tuesday, October 7.
This is approximately one hundred million euros more than the figure previously put forward, though not officially validated, since the Games were awarded in July 2024. The organizers state that this increase is due to a revision of the contingency provision (which was underestimated in the bid dossier), now reaching about 240 million euros. This figure is also, and most significantly, above the spending cap of 2 billion euros set by the state over a year ago.
