THE MORNING LIST
Since the critical and commercial success of his third album in 2015 – which sold over a million copies – Tame Impala has transitioned from being an indie rock headliner to a pop icon. Behind the name of this Australian band is actually one man: Kevin Parker, 39. He writes, composes, sings, and records all the instruments for his albums in the studio.
On Friday, October 17, Tame Impala released his fifth album, Deadbeat, with more electronic sounds than ever and the vibe of a rave. Although he has released only two albums in the last ten years, Kevin Parker has not been idle, as his success has made him a highly sought-after producer.
From commercial pop to rap, through R&B and electronica… he has collaborated with a wide variety of artists seeking his kaleidoscopic touch. A look back at some of the best collaborations from the Australian creative force.
In 2016, just one year after the release of Currents, Tame Impala’s one-man band was called upon by Lady Gaga to help compose a track for her fifth studio album, Joanne. Alongside the singer-songwriter and producers Mark Ronson and BloodPop, Kevin Parker wrote and produced Perfect Illusion. The song was released in August 2016 and served as the lead single for the Poker Face performer’s new album.
