President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso is recognized far beyond the borders of Congo as an active defender of the environment and sustainable development. Among his most notable international initiatives is the creation of the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin.
Launched in 2017 in Oyo, this pan-African initiative aims to finance sustainable development projects in the countries bordering the Congo Basin, the planet’s second green lung. The fund is intended to support the green economy, protect ecosystems, and improve the living conditions of local populations, while combating the effects of climate change.
Through his personal commitment and diplomatic influence, President Sassou-N’Guesso succeeded in mobilizing international partners around this fund, positioning Congo as a key player in global environmental governance.
