President Sassou-N’Guesso outlines security priorities for 2026 election year

During the New Year’s celebration ceremony held on December 31, 2025, at the Ministry of National Defense, the President of the Republic, Denis Sassou-N’Guesso, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, outlined the main priorities for the defense and security forces in 2026, a year marked by the organization of the presidential election.

During this ceremony bringing together generals, junior officers, and enlisted soldiers, the report of the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Guy Blanchard Okoï, was read before the Head of State’s address. The latter commended the full implementation of directives issued in 2024, despite a challenging context, highlighting the resilience of the security forces and the population.

The President of the Republic paid tribute to the Congolese forces participating in peacekeeping operations in Africa and expressed his condolences to the families of the soldiers who fell on the field of honor.

Emphasizing the importance of the 2026 election, Denis Sassou-N’Guesso assured that the presidential election would take place in peace, security, and transparency. To this end, he announced a qualitative strengthening of certain combat units to consolidate the operational capabilities of the armed forces and prevent any attempt at destabilization.

The Commander-in-Chief also commended the results achieved in 2025 in the fight against organized crime, stating that these actions had significantly improved public safety and security. In a firm tone, he warned that no tolerance would be shown towards criminal elements in 2026 and beyond.

In conclusion, Denis Sassou-N’Guesso called on partner countries to continue their support for Congo in matters of security, while extending his best wishes to all police personnel and encouraging the military to actively engage in agricultural development.
