The MoU is expected to boost trade and private sector investment in both countries. Potential sectors include agriculture and agro-processing, infrastructure, energy, and tourism. Appropriate measures are being taken to facilitate logistics between the two countries. RwandAir is in the process of launching a direct flight to Mozambique to facilitate transport and logistics. The launch of direct flights will significantly strengthen bilateral economic links, as currently, Rwandans traveling to Mozambique must transit through Johannesburg or Addis Ababa.
It was emphasized that Mozambique, with its geographical advantages like direct ocean access and market connectivity with five countries, offers opportunities for businesses. It was noted that the agreement will strengthen bilateral ties beyond diplomatic relations to include business and trade.
Investments in Mozambique should be considered from a regional perspective. The partnership in agriculture offers excellent prospects, as Mozambique is part of SADC (Southern African Development Community), providing access to other bloc members. It was also assured that incentives available to local investors will be equally accessible to foreign investors.
The Mozambican delegation held meetings with the Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF) to discuss areas of mutual interest. A Rwandan delegation is scheduled to visit Mozambique soon as a follow-up to these meetings.
