Rwanda aims to expand its share of the global flower market.

Must read

Driven by robust international demand, Rwanda’s floriculture industry has thrived despite the pandemic. According to data from the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), during the 2020/21 fiscal year, it contributed revenue of $7,908,025 (approximately 8 billion Rwandan francs).

Nearly 92% of shipments are destined for the Netherlands. Some consignments are also exported to East Africa and certain European countries, including the United Kingdom and Germany.

Rwanda has expanded its greenhouses to increase flower production.

Motivated by the growth in flower exports and to reach new markets, Rwandan horticulturists traveled to the Netherlands to participate in the International Floriculture Trade Fair (IFTF) in Vijfhuizen, Netherlands, from November 3 to 5.

The goal of Rwanda’s participation is to demonstrate its potential in the global flower trade. Through the IFTF, the Rwandan delegation aims to forge international trade links between Rwandan rose growers and international buyers. The participation was facilitated by the Embassy of Rwanda in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).

It will also be an opportunity for Rwandan delegates to gain knowledge on the latest developments in the sector and how to address pressing issues in the industry.
