In Ghana, a shocking incident has shaken the nation: the death of Cheikh Touré, a young Senegalese footballer who went to Ghana hoping to be scouted. But the young man appears to have fallen into a trap. His death on Saturday has led the Senegalese and Ghanaian governments to take charge of the case.
It has become a national affair. Senegal and Ghana want to clarify this case. Both countries have stated they have launched thorough investigations. Cheikh Touré had come to Ghana a week ago. The young footballer, under 20 years old, had gone to join his childhood friend in Kumasi, 250 kilometers from Accra, the Ghanaian capital. From Kumasi, the scouts promised to secure him a contract in Morocco.
Unfortunately, the dream of becoming a professional footballer turned into a nightmare. The supposed scouts turned out to be kidnappers. Cheikh Touré’s mother, who lives in Yeumbeul, a suburb of Dakar, claims she had already sent them, with great difficulty, the sum of 650,000 CFA francs.
She received photos of her son’s body and states that he was killed under horrific circumstances.
