A new model of sustainable urban development emerges in Kintele

Must read

The cornerstone of a model city, named “Kintele Durable 2030,” was laid this morning in the presence of President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso. This innovative urban project, located 15 kilometers north of the capital, aims to become a benchmark for sustainable development in Central Africa.

Designed according to circular economy principles, the new district will integrate energy-positive buildings, a smart system for managing waste and water, and a soft mobility network connecting homes to workplaces, schools, and health centers. Over 5,000 social and eco-friendly housing units are planned, with 30% reserved for young people and low-income families.

The president emphasized the social dimension of the project: “Kintele Durable is not just a technological showcase; it is first and foremost an improved living environment for our citizens, a demonstration that urban growth and environmental respect can go hand in hand.”

The project also includes the creation of a 200-hectare peri-urban “agricultural belt,” intended to supply local markets with fresh produce and train young people in agro-ecological techniques. An initial funding agreement of 150 million euros has been signed with the French Development Agency and the European Investment Bank.

The work of the first phase, which includes the construction of basic infrastructure and 1,200 housing units, is expected to be completed in 2027. Ultimately, the city could accommodate up to 50,000 residents and create 10,000 green jobs.
